Work Makes the World Go Round

Have you ever wondered how each people spend their day and night? If you look at them they are busy; each has something to do, something to accomplish, and a target to reach. They walk in a hurry, early in the morning, always trying to be on time. They never notice how time flies and having a break is their only time for oneself. But sometimes, we still need to spend time with others too. It is a relief when the clock reaches five o’clock because it is time to go home and be with family and friends. But this is not the reality for all. Some still need to stay for more. One’s concept of work may be favorable or not depending on which aspect of discussion is presented.

Work is good and important when we are talking about all the benefits that work is providing us. First, work is our bread and butter. It takes care of the financial requirements of living and surviving. Life is going to be difficult without work because survival requires the basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. Without work, how can they be acquired? Work also provides a sense of pride. It boosts one’s confidence especially when you are happy and satisfied with your work. It also gives you a sense of satisfaction, accomplishment and self-worth. Work promotes progress as well. When work is provided, people will have an opportunity to improve their life status, thus progress is expected to come after.

Too much work definitely is not good. Imagine pushing yourself to work hard on something that you don’t feel rewarding and enjoyable. Things could have been done but done only for the sake of accomplishing the task to earn and nothing else. Work could also cause too much stress to many people. Since they are not happy and satisfied with their work, their output is very poor and deadlines are so hard to beat. Work when not provided can cause negative impact on progress. Since the country cannot provide work for its people, many will migrate abroad and would try their luck there. This is the usual scenario in a third world countries where unemployment is sky high and income is low.

It is said that you have to be thankful because you have work, or should we say work should be thankful because there are people that will get things done. I see it in this way, work is created because of the needs of people. People work in different industries, those which are producing goods or providing services. All of these industries provide the needs of people. The world of work is just a cycle, you earn, you spend, they earn, they spend; but one thing is for sure, through work, the world continuously develop because work make sense for our living. We work to live and progress and not live and progress to work. Love your work and enjoy life. This is work! It makes the world go round.

Enjoy lang at life is so short. Live life to the fullest

  3. We just simply needs to love our work especially if we consider this as our bread and butter. Remember that we are blessed that we have a job that helps us to sustain all our needs or our necessities but you also have to enjoy life which means we need to take some time off from our busy schedules (especially we teachers). Give yourself a break and unwind!

Very simple yet insightful article Dr. Santos. This made me assess my own perception of work. Well, everyone of us has our own view of how our job affects our life but the thing is, you have to balance your career and your personal life. This is agreeable since we earn a living probably to sustain our needs and to survive. Surviving allows us to enjoy life. But it doesn't mean that you have to devote most of your time for work. Think of all the reasons why you are doing it... For yourself? For your family? To be happy? Then that's the time you will realize that you haven't achieved much from working. If so, start reaching them now!

  5. First, thank you for sharing your insights Dr. Santos. As for me, I find myself 'challenged' in keeping a balance between work and personal life. At work, teachers like us are confronted with tons of work to do with so little and limited time, to the point that we usually feel burdened by it and that we are left with less time for our personal life since work eats up majority of our time. But on second thought, I came to realize that here is no such thing as 'balance between work and personal life'. How will there be a balance if we can prioritize only one: we can prioritize 'personal life' and give less on work all we want, or we could do otherwise and be the sterotype workaholic. But, do we really have to strike a balance in between the two? Can't we just treat work like a personal business to us so that we could work happily and with less burden, or can we not just live our lives like we mean work and business where we treat things seriously, do things professionally, and be as effective and as efficient as we could possibly be?

As I read your article (mam) Dr.Santos. I have a realization about my work as a teacher. There should be a balance of work and personal issues. Work is necessary for our daily living. It makes us feel we are functional being in our society. It is also a source of income and a source of personal development. As a teacher our personality and skills are harnessed and tested through times. But when work affects personal relationship like family, friends, love life it is not healthy anymore. So as a teacher you should know how to make plan about the things important to you.Because time will come where in you forgot something especially your personal needs. Maybe it is one of the reasons why some teachers are single. They forgot to balanced their life especially love life.

Thank you madam for sharing this blog to us!! ! So why is having a work and a career important?
This is the pathology of our times. Work is necessary, but it is sometimes alienating. It has a lot of advantages and a little disadvantage depending upon how we handled our work and workplace. It is this way because our natural human endeavors to strive, to create, to design and build have been captured by the ruling elites. Basically speaking, many people believed that “A good day is a pay day.” In other words, if you have a job or a career, you can earn money. If you can earn money, you can buy things you need, pay your bills, have a place to live, and basically do things you want to do. Without money, you can’t do much! Having a job or career makes you feel good. Knowing you can do something well and earn money for your skill is a great feeling. When you work, you contribute to the community. You help make the economy and your community stronger. You are being a productive citizen and a valued community member. As usual, when you work, you develop new skills, learn new things, and create a record of employment. Then when you want to get a new or a better job, or maybe even go to college, your experiences can help you to do that. Lastly when you have a job or a career, you have self-respect, dignity, and self-worth. You are being responsible and making sure that you can take care of yourself. You are creating a solid foundation that you can build on to have a successful future.
Your first job may not be the type of job you have want forever, but it’s a job that will give you skills you can use for a career that will last long and leads you to be a successful individual.
We dream of a fulfilling life but instead we end up selling car or other properties. But this is just a threat to your dreams. All we have to do is stop this dream and do something to make those dreams into reality. And maybe, this it through the helping hand of our WORK! Just live your life to the fullest.

You presented a really interesting point. I appreciate all the insights you give in this blog about work. You have developed a great understanding of your topic... i can see that in the quality of your writings. A very comprehensive and precise. I was impressed by your statement.."We work to live and progress and not live and progress for work". This reminds me of a quotation from Steve Jobs that says," Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it".

Success isn't always about greatness. It's about everyday hard WORK and overcoming challenges. It is about embracing the pain work brings to the table and at the end of the day you will then realize that there is no substitute for WORK.

    Again...great blog!

  9. Good day madam!
Indeed I'm very thankful I have my work. I'm thankful because I am now a teacher. In my first year of my service I was a very positive thinker even things went wrong. Even in a year they transferred me from one school to another school. In a year I taught three schools and various grade levels. Yes, I offered all my time my 95% and efforts in my work and to all the people surrounds me and even my salary in the beautification and repair of the room and in every programs I was assigned just to make everybody appreciate me and recognize me of being me. The newly hired needs to show what others say,Yes I did. Dahil ba may kapit...Yan pinaghuhugutan ko to prove everyone that they are all wrong. But that principle almost blinded me of everything. Sweet words poison my entire me. Even others take what I have, I let them for superiority over rule. If I shout sabihin lumalaki ang ulo if I express what I feel sabihin nagrereklamo..Saan nga ba ako lulugar??
Before I am happy what I'm doing until one day I realized it's over. I can be a funny clown but other's don't laugh my jokes. I can be the machine that will help them, but others murmur my lapses. I can be the cold water to quench the thirst of everyone, but others still want soda. I can be their alarm clock so I can remind them what to do next and awake them from the reality but others turn me off. I can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world and there's still going to be someone who hates peaches (DITA VON TEESE). Now, I am not happy what I'm doing. The insights in your blog somehow touches my heart very much. I forget the balance of my work, my health and my family.

“It’s our bread and butter” – that is the dialogue of our principal too to remind us that our work is very important. I am always thankful for having my work. Being a teacher is not an easy task. Dealing with different kind of personalities everyday, doing lesson plans, visual aids, and forms at home (instead of playing with your kids), and always a teacher’s factor everytime the students fail are not that easy. But seeing your students succeed academically, and specially, in life worth it all. One must love what he is doing, or rather, doing what he loves. Sabi nga po sa nabasa ko “Find a job that you love doing and you’ll never work a day in your life”. If one feels that his work is a burden, then quit! Get out of the system! Because surely, he will not be productive in his workplace. People work to live, and people live to work.

  11. God worked for 6 days and on the 7th day He rested.

Does God needs rest? Of course not, He will never get tired beacuse He is God, but why is it that He rested?

Maybe because to give us a good example that too much work is toxic. We need to find time for ourselves to connect with other people.

At the end of the day we will realize that our connection with other people especially with our love ones will give us enough enthusiasm to go back to work.

  12. God worked for 6 days and on the 7th day He rested.

Why is it that He rested on the 7th day? Do He need rest? Of course not, because He is God; He is not bounded by limitation. Maybe He rested to give us the example of balance between rest and work.

We need to rest to reconnect ourselves with other people especially with our love ones. As we connect with them we will realize that our connection will give us enough fuel to go back to work with joy and enthusiam.

They said, the only way to do great work is to love what you do. Nothing comes easy, we should always work hard for it. As a teacher for ten years, I have met a lot of people, those people may help you to make your work easier or to make it harder. Working hard for something we don't care is called stress, but working hard for something we love is called passion. Things are useless if we don't put love in everything we do. We should always remember our reason why we work, because they will also be the ones to make us stronger. As a teacher, all I can say is I really love and want my job. Because I believed that teaching is not just a job, it is a passion to inspire other people. Good things always happen for those people who don't give up. Things are better to be well done than to be well said because the more you work hard for something the greater you will feel when you achieved it. Stop doubting yourself and make all things happen through our Lord's guidance. I am Mr. Jayson Perez Latube, I chose not to give up, not to stop dreaming, not to stop hoping and also, I chose to inspire other people because I know, for every hard work I do, success will payoff. May God bless us all.

"Whatever you do, work at it wholeheartedly as though you were doing it for the Lord and not merely for people." -Colossians 3:23

Whenever I hear the word "work" this verse always comes to my mind. Sometimes or most of the time, we tend to experience 'stress' or the feeling of exhaustion in our own work place but still, I'm thankful to have a work. It provides me the means to live and to start my own family. In my kind of work, I'm able to help and be part of a student's life. Above all these things, I consider my works as a calling from God, just like any other profession. We live and we work and also enjoy the fruit of our work.

Work? Yes, this is the gift of God that has given to us. Maybe every one of us, has a different insight about work. We have different reason how we spend money came from our work.
When I was 17 years old, The Lord gave me a work right after I graduated high school. I was before a sales lady at SM Makati. That work was the reason why I didn’t continue my study that time. After my contract at SM Makati, I continued working in different company at different department store. I assumed that working in the department store was the permanent work that He gave me... But not, the only permanent that I got in working in the department store is my husband. I met my husband at Sm Carriedo. I was then a promo girl of Converse and he was a stockman of Adidas.
Binigyan Niya ako ng anak na matured, at the age of 3 years old ng youngest child ko, when I continue my schooling, ni minsan d nya ako iniyakan.

    God bless you madam!
After having read your insights, I realized I am very blessed for having a work, a job, my bread and butter. People around the globe are in billions, the jobs are only in millions.
I could not imagine if works are not created, those who have no resources have nothing to eat at all, thanks jobs are created. It is commonly heard that time passes too fast but this just that works makes the world go round. People are too busy, they have to meet all their needs and wants that they sacrifice something in their lives-family. We work for our family but sometimes we prioritized our work over our family.
We need a balanced life and I believe we could achieve this if we’ll learn to be contented. Our work will be worthless if we have no family who will appreciate AND LOVE US.

Thank you for having an eye-opener blog about work ma'am.
It is agreeable that work gives a sense of pride and having one is something that should be happy for because not everyone could have it especially those whose educational background is considerably not overwhelming where the hiring for a certain industry is merely based-on.
At times, I personally see my work as a big burden because it hinders me to become more socialized. However, I realized that having one is a blessing because aside from the fact that ‘It takes care of the financial requirements of living and surviving” as you said, it also boosts confidence to face the world – opens doors of opportunity to be self-fulfilled and to be part of a working committee in this world which proves that I am not only existing but living.
